FTP ?

Post by Mclane » Sat Dec 17, 2005 3:11 pm

Hi there, love the site, the layout is superb with screens and box scans, it's even got a few of my hacks on there (Raid over Libya for one :)

I can't say how impressed I am to see such time and care taken to give as much info as possible, a huge well done and thanks on that!!

I'm an avid collector of the games and have even helped a few of the games in the database get published such as Orb of Zarimer and Quest for the Maltese chicken while I was writing for Atai User.

Anyways, is there anyway to FTP files from the database rather than go one by one?

I only ask as there seems to be quite a few 'new' titles that have been dumped and normally I'd set my downloader to get them in one hit but as the files are in individual html entries its not possible to do that.

If it's not possible I understand...

Again, many thanks for setting up such a great site and I'll be spending quite some time here I can tell :-)

Hello,

Thanks!

Is Raid over Libya a hack or was it written with the Sidewinder Editor? We'll be uploading the game soon, please let us know if you want to be credited (either with your full name or an alias).

That's great! So you had something to do with Futureware?

BTW, if there is anything rare in your collection you'd like to contribute, we'll gladly upload it! Programs are added on an almost daily basis but there are still many gaps in the collection, like some of the more obscure games from the UK.

For the moment, we want to leave the database the way it is. Things could change in the future but we want to have full control of our work. We could lose that if we go the FTP route. Besides, I don't thnk it's a good idea to have everything spread out now as there are still so many dumps and so much information to be added.

Yes, you'll find a lot of exclusive dumps on our site with more to come. Our next goal will be to have a more readable list of things we need as there are still hundreds and hundreds of games in various tape and disk collections around the world that need to be archived before it's too late. Spread the word if you can
Again, many thanks for setting up such a great site and I'll be spending quite some time here I can tell :-)
Nice to hear people with such enthusiasm!

Sorry for the delay....

The levels were done with the Sidewinder editor by a guy called Big Mac and I hacked the code to load our new levels.

You can credit me as Paul Irvine, I was called The Moleater in those days, the name comes from me making fun out of a guy called Mike who was the cracker of most of the EA titles under the name of The Mole, nice guy too

And for a small bit of extra info, he along with another friend made the controller card for the scumbags at Computerhouse (unpaid!!)

I met John Sosta and Paul (forgotten his last name) via Atari User, I was sent Sidewinder to review but it was missing the level editor so I went to met the team. Futureware was ran from Johns house.

Because of my job with a company called Maplin (then, tecnical Atari sales) I met quite a few Atari people like Adam Michael Bilyard, Archer Mclean etc etc who were customers and also people who wrote in their spare time. I introduced them to Futureware as their first publisher. John Kavanaugh who wrote Quest for the Maltese chicken later worked for Domark in their Kremlin software team and last time I spoke to him he was working with John Romero's ill fated Diakatana game..

Michael King who wrote ord of Zaramier is I presume still a Policeman of some sort in West London..

99% of my stuff is atr's or images these days, what little software I had went to Aaron aka Holmes, we shared our files hoping to make a fairly large collection. If you ever got one of his CD's / DVD's from the Holmes site then you have pretty much what I have along with the Tosec stuff.

You would be welcome to a copy of what I have to go through, its got some of my own bits like scans of reviews from Atari User etc..Let me know if you want it and I'll send one to you.

No problem...Just glad to see it still being found..

Nice information and cool stories!

We'll let you know about the reviews as I think somebody else is working on getting Atari User online...

Do you have any old dealer catalogs by any chance? Anything else that may be a bit uncommon?

Thanks in advance!

Thanks a lot, we'll upload it soon!

Do you have a list of the other ones? I think the only one we got is the Silica 1988 publication which came with Atari User so we welcome anything else

Yeah, I was on the Silica mailing list in the 80s, but I don't have any of that stuff any more :(

It all went to the guy who got my first Spectrum (plus 3.5" drive and much cool stuff). Being a student was hard back then...
