Two small observations about the VAPI section

Hi,

1. I'm having no problems in loading any of the VAPI releases but Choplifter!. I have tried with OS/B and XL, but all I get is a blue screen. Anyone else having that problem?

2. The download available for Serpent's Star shows all disks as ATRs, and no disk as ATX.

Otherwise, everything is perfect and keep those VAPI's coming. :D

I would also like to contribute to get more VAPI's released, not by doing them, as I have no original hardware, but I could send original software to anyone who can. (I would pay all the shipping charges, so no cost for you).

Best regards to all

Sorry about that, we forgot to mention the game would only work with the next release of the emulator.

Fixed

Thanks for your support! Do you happen to have a list of your original disks?

I read, albeit very briefly the V api page on your w/s

Having read it, it sounds like a patch similar to the Steem engines 'Pasti.dll' patch, in that they both used to incorporate the original copy protection into A8 or ST software images

Is it the intention to make VAPI widely available so as to removing the diferrent versions of the same ATR/exe/xex image etc and just have one ATR/exe or XEX image of that program

Exactly, both PASTI and VAPI were developed by the same person

Exactly, the site gears towards the preservation of original stuff whenever we can. VAPI disks can already be used with emulators and on the real deal so there will be no point in having inferior versions around. In the case of cracked versions fixing bugs, having nice trainers or such, we could have both though.

A newer version of the toolset is available. Note that you can't just update VAPI.DLL alone. The newer VAPI.DLL won't work with the older versions of the emulator and Vapi2sio.

VAPI.DLL:

Patched emulator:
http://vapi.fxatari.com/downloads/a8wp_04.zip

Vapi2Sio:

Btw, the comment about requiring OS-B for Cohen’s Tower is wrong. Or at least it doesn’t apply to the original and the VAPI image.

Runs ok in XL/XE machines (and XL mode in emulator) as long as memory is 64K. In other words, it runs on 800XL and 65XE (without RAM expansion), it doesn’t on 130XE.

I'm not so sure I agree with completely erasing disk images with VAPI images as they become available.

I'm assuming that since it is a .DLL file it is only useful on a Wintel machine so you're pretty much excluding a whole ton of "other" platform's.

Seems the PASTI format is the same and as I understand the Amiga format (SPS?) as well.

Why the propietary code?

Just curious... I'm probably wondering more about the Amiga format since it has been out for some time now.

A toolset for Linux, both for emulation and SIO2PC applications, will be released soon.

I expect other platforms (such as Mac) to take bit longer, but not too much.

Pasti and Vapi file formats won't be undisclosed for much longer. It is only during this phase that they are.
