Complete Newbie

Post by darkknight » Wed Mar 15, 2006 2:09 pm

Ok, have only just come across this site whilst looking for some old text adventure games.

I have found the game I want, but I need to know how to run it. What emulation software do I need and how do I configure it for use.

Sorry for the stupid question but you know we all have to start somewhere

Hi!

You should get Atari800WinPlus - http://atariarea.histeria.pl/PLus/index_us.htm

The operating system ROM files can be downloaded from that site too.

The files that come with the emulator have a lot of info about how to get it working, but feel free to ask more questions if you run into any problems with it.

Thanks for the reply.

I did download the files and the rom packs, but the one game I have tried to far: http://www.atarimania.com/detail_soft.p ... ON_ID=6864 will not load as a .cas file. And the game just keeps crashing out.

Any ideas anyone??

I think you're on the right track

Make sure:
- BASIC is disabled and SIO patch is enabled (ALT+E will bring up the options for you to check out)
- the disk drive is off.

ATARIXL.ROM
ATARIOSB.ROM
ATARIBAS.ROM - needed to stop rom boot error

ALT-e show basic off and patch installed
Disk off.

Still falls over... any ideass

You should also make sure that no cartridges are attached - this can be done from the "File" menu.

If that doesn't work, try "clear all settings" from the "Misc" menu.

Assuming you're using Atari800Win 4.0 beta, are you Autoboot Image (Alt+B) to autoload the *.cas file, or were you doing that already?

Just querying, because if you try to load in the *.cas file as a tape attachment it kicks you out. Well, it does here anyway.

Hmm, fails for me too!

If I load a .CAS file the normal way, File-->Attach Tape, then the emulation crashes.

Seems AtariWinPlus 4.0 Final Version has a bug (at least while run under Windows 98SE).

On my system there is at least a workaround.

Open Atari800Win Plus in a Window. Drag the .CAS file to the Atari800Win window. Click on the Window (to bring back focus). Game will load.

Alt+B is your friend.

autoboot that image! i even managed to run some old Atlantis games (yes I was cheap) from doing that.

if that doesn't work... maybe going back to an earlier version might help? it is a beta.

"Autoboot image" will work with boot tapes. If the emulator was installed using the Windows installer package, then you can also simply double-click the cassette file to achieve the same thing.

Of course, the procedure is slightly different for a BASIC program, but the instructions for such .cas files are usually on the relevant Atarimania page anyway.
