$150 (!) for a tape game: check this
auction!
Anyone here who spent more than $20 for a tape game?

I think that I paid about $20 for my first copy of Maze of Death.
Of course, Ultima - Escape from Mt. Drash for the VIC-20 is a cassette game, too, and it sells for thousands of dollars.
However, I agree that this auction went crazy!

That´s insane, that Ultima pricetag

But then again, if you´re a collector through and through, you´d pay that amount for it I guess...!

I guess that it's a "supply and demand" situation.
It's all pretty unpredictable where A8 software is concerned.

Hehe, I actually thought that was cheap.
If anybody has the Rapidfire release of Combat Leader on tape, I'd be more than happy to put down the same money.. *wink*
Not to mention Queen of Hearts, also Rapidfire.. That I'd kill for!

I've heard that those two titles are in demand.
I must keep a lookout...

Could be that I've asked Andre about them not so long ago, not to mention I ask pretty much anybody that will listen to me, lol.

More than $1800 for a cart without label:
auction

Totally crazy
THIS CART HAS BEEN CONFIRMED TO BE REAL FROM THE MODERATOR AT THE ATARTAGE.COM FORUM. I HAVE PICS OF THE CIRCUIT BOARD THAT ARE AVAILABLE UPON REQUEST.
I'm not saying it is a reproduction. But how in earth can he be so sure. If it was produced in big quantities, then it might have a mask ROM, and then very difficult to clone. But I guess this one has an EPROM.
Of course, it is easy to spot a bad reproduction. But for that price, somebody might make an excellent counterfeit.

It was produced or at least given out in very small quantities,
as a mask rom, not eprom. Had it of had an eprom then it would have likely been a fake. But having the mask rom means it's legit. Surprising so few of these are around, rumor is 125 copies were given away, but even members of Atari probably had copies too, there may be more out there. There are around 4 or 5 copies accounted for on eprom with lab loaner labels, could these be faked? I don't think I'd rest safe with one of them, too easy for a counterfit to surface that way. And at that price I'd want to make sure I had an original mask rom version.

I see, thanks for the clarification.
I'm surprised that with such low quantities it was manufactured in mask rom. But this certainly changes the possibilities of making a counterfeit.
Of course, it is still possible to make a counterfeit. But it would probably be too expensive to be worth unless the faker could sell a minimum amount of counterfeits, and all of them at that high price.
