Hello!

I grew up on the old 8bit atari, and was absolutely thrilled to find my 2 favorite childhood games(the return of heracles, and alternte reality :the dungeon) here on the site, available for download. My question is what do I do with the .atr file I get from the download? Do I need to find an atari 800 emulator? Anyone know where to find one if that is the case? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Here's a link to one of the best A8 emulators:

http://www.a800win.atari-area.prv.pl/

It's a Polish site, but they do have English sections too.

I found that one pretty easy to install and operate, but if you have problems with it, please post again and let us know what's giving you the difficulty.

We'll try to help if we can!

Ok the first problem I have follows...

I downloaded the emulator, opened it up , click the .exe and I get a splash screen that reads :
"A ROM load error prevented atari800Win plus from booting you should check the ROM setting under Atari/Rom images menu."

If I go to the settings there is multiple text boxes for OS-a, OS-b, XL/XE, ect.. the all say "none"

I understand I am supposed to point then twords a ROM file I think but where do I find these? When I downloaded Return of HErecles for example I only recived a file with the .atr extension.

Thanks IF you guys can help me get this figured out.

You can download the ROMs here: http://numen.scene.pl/download/atari_roms.zip

You should be all set once they are installed properly. If a game fails to boot, try different combinations of BASIC (on or off) or OS (OS-B or XL/XE).

Ok, newbie here but an experienced veteran at Atari 800 XL games. 8)

Anyway, I can't get the emulator to work at all. I am trying to play USAAF.

How do you get this emulator to work with specific detailed instructions.

OK.

If you're using Atari800winplus, go to the File menu, select "Autoboot Image" and then browse to the unzipped .atr file (I'm presuming that you've downloaded the .zip file and saved the two .atr files to your hard disk).

If you've done that, just wait a few moments and the game should start.

If not, or if you haven't understood anything in this message, then please post again.

Good luck!

is there an emulator for the commodore 64 that is as nice/good as AtariWinPlus is for the Atari?

Vice is pretty good:

Now I think the best emu out there for the Atari 8bits is on the Mac side, AtariMacOSX which has a great interface, much better than AWPlus in my opinion.

And all the emulators on the Windows side should try to be as slick as STeem which emulates the Atari ST. Once you learn it, its so easy to use: http://steem.atari.st/

i dont guess that there is a way to use *.d64 files with AWP? or a utility to convert C64 games to A8 games? (That would be cool).

btw.. i use Windows 2k.

Go ahead and download WinVice, it's pretty good for C64 emulation on my Win2k box.

ftp://ftp.funet.fi/pub/cbm/crossplatfor ... E-1.15.zip

And on that main Vice page the documentation is excellent.

Here's me doing some cursing on WinVice and C64 Qbert :D

And here's my two favorite places to get C64 games:

http://s64.emuunlim.com/

All sports, all the time. One of my favorite sites on the net.

And most of the c64 games can be found here:

http://www.c64.com/

One of my favorite games on the C64 not available on the Atari 8bit is Stunt Car Racer. It does have a great version on the ST's though :D
