How to Run a Game?

Post by Tekko » Sun Apr 10, 2011 2:08 pm

Hey all, great website.

I downloaded Caverns of Khafka, but when I try and run the game it comes up with an error saying it's not compatible with the windows version i'm running. I'm using 64 bit windows 7, do I have to downlaod any other programs to play games?

Thanks.

Caverns of Khafka and all other titles are for Atari machines not for Windows 7 (64 or 32 bit). If you meant emulator, then there are issues with 32-bit and 16-bit software running on 64-bit OSes. It's Microsoft's fault as they purposely didn't support backward compatibility on their 64-bit OSes. The intel 64-bit processor does support 32-bit and 16-bit as you can easily install an older OS or even Windows 7 32-bit version. Up to Windows XP, Microsoft had pretty much maintained backward compatibility with older 16-bit and 32-bit software on their OSes, but unfortunately this is no longer the case. Oh, even the 32-bit stuff that does run, it's being partly emulated in some way so it's not running as good as it would on a 32-bit OS in 32-bit native mode.

Hi Tekko,
which emulator are you using? There are several with new developments versions hopefully one of them will work ok:
Try these:

atari800 - http://sourceforge.net/projects/atari80 ... 800/2.2.1/
altirra - http://www.virtualdub.org/altirra.html
atari++ - http://www.xl-project.com/

Good luck :D
