Retrogame blog.

Post by Skaepoy » Sun Jan 12, 2014 8:50 pm

Hello, Atari world!

I hope I'm not ruining your day by my shameless spamming, but I thought I might introduce myself and make an advertisement. :D See, I'm a relative newcomer to the whole Atari thing, being a Finnish person, so you might be aware that our primary machine back in the 80's was the C64. My only real Atari experiences come from my childhood, although the memories are rather vivid. Thanks to emulation and one good local friend with an Atari 800 XE, I have started to look for one myself now, but enough of that - I actually had some matter of importance, that I need your help on.

I have this blog that you might be aware of, if any of you happen to visit Lemon64 or World of Spectrum occasionally; it's the Finnish Retro Game Comparison Blog, or FRGCB for short (the link is at the bottom of this post). The blog's idea is basically to compare some retrogames in as unbiased a manner as I possibly can, mixing 8-bits with 16-bits and arcade machines etc. So far, there have been quite a few Atari-related games featured in the blog, mostly with very good results. Now, I have started a new series of articles for finding out about somehow Unique Games for each machine, be it a unique part of a series which only exists on one machine, or a completely unique gaming experience of some other kind, that can only be found on one machine. So far, I have been troubled with finding more than a few games for the ST (namely Fire Rescue, Killdozers and Whitewater Madness), and I haven't had any time to find anything for A5200 or A7800 yet. If you could help me with the research, I'd be very grateful indeed. The series will continue for as long as there are good unique games worth mentioning.

My blog is at http://frgcb.blogspot.com
and the Atari-related blog entries so far are: Bruce Lee, Stunt Car Racer, Commando, Bump 'n Jump, Duck Tales, Blue Max (twofer), Giana Sisters, Orc Attack, Hat Trick, Wizball, The Sentinel, Platoon, Winter Games (in two parts) and the first part of Unique Games.

Thanks to marakatti :)
More games are needed though, especially for the older Atari machines, and the A400/800 computers in particular. Any suggestions?

While we're still looking for some unique Atari games, I wrote a comparison on another Atari original, if not a very highly regarded classic - here's AZTEC CHALLENGE. :D

Hmm. Seems more quiet around this forum than I thought it would. Just in case any of you are still around here, here's some of my more recent blog entries with Atari-related material, the most recent of which is this comparison of SPELUNKER. http://frgcb.blogspot.fi/2014/02/spelun ... -1983.html

The previous one was a comparison of THE GOONIES, which is one of my all-time Atari/C64 favourites. Check it out here: http://frgcb.blogspot.fi/2014/02/the-go ... -1986.html

Then there's Part 2 of my UNIQUE GAMES series, with thanks for information to marakatti. :mr.green: http://frgcb.blogspot.fi/2014/02/unique ... art-2.html

More coming up sooner or later.

An excellent reading again. The best Finnish ST game must be a conversion of Star Dust for STe made by a members of well known democrew Aggression. There was also a demoversion for Coloris available for ST.

Cool! Thanks for the info, I might have to check them out a bit later. :)

Now, just in time for the International Workers' Day (or Vappu as we call it here), it's time to feature another set of UNIQUE GAMES,
or at least exclusive ones if not entirely unique. Some Atari ST titles have been listed again, all from marakatti's suggestions, so
thanks a bunch! :D

Also, here's the previous entry about LEADERBOARD, which I forgot to mention earlier about:
