It's time for me to take my summer holiday now, but before I do so, I must update all my haunts about my most recent blog entry, or entries, in case I haven't visited some forum in a while.

Today, I have posted the biggest single comparison (or at least, comparison in a single entry) about a game that has been the most requested one ever, so I hope this being the final comparison of this season has been worth the wait. Of course, I'm speaking about SID MEIER'S PIRATES!, which is - as far as I know - considered a proper classic on all platforms it was ever released on. If you want to prepare for one long read, order a pizza and boil a few cups of coffee, for this is a ridiculously long one. It also features plenty of graphics, so if you happen to have a data limited deal with your internet provider, read this one elsewhere.

But that's not all, folks: in the most recent entry for the UNIQUE GAMES series, I included some games for the 8-bit Atari computers, so you might want to check it out as well. 8)

Now, have a good couple of reads, and have a great summer! :mr.green:

Reety-alrighty, I've been slowly reactivating the blog and I guess it's high time to start updating all the forum threads accordingly.

September started off with something I did for demonstrational purposes - a comparison of a game that only ever had 16-bit releases. And this isn't even the worst case scenario, but I guess you might get the point of trying to do something like this. At least the game is enjoyable, so you might as well take a look at this...
ZANY GOLF - http://frgcb.blogspot.fi/2015/09/zany-g ... -1988.html

And today, I have posted a comparison of an Atari classic you've probably been waiting for, and which one of my blog readers suggested a while back.
ENCOUNTER - http://frgcb.blogspot.fi/2015/09/encoun ... -1983.html

That'll be it for this month's portion of Atari stuff on the blog, so next update will be made some time next month. Enjoy your reading! 8)

It's October now, so it's time to look at some horror-themed games again. 8)
We'll start this month with an oddity of sorts - a game based on a movie based on a novel, all of which are quite different from each other.
The game, I have to say, can be only loosely based on the movie, but it does have some bits of familiarity to Hitchcock's version of PSYCHO.

It seems kinda quiet around here on the Atarimania forum, but I'll update this thread anyway, just in case someone pops in.
This year's month of Halloween-related stuff ends with a two-for-one entry including two Cosmi games: FORBIDDEN FOREST and CAVERNS OF KHAFKA.

This month's Atari-related entries are two comparisons, neither of which originated on any of the Atari machines. So, if the results are not to your liking, perhaps it shouldn't come as much of a surprise. Anyway, the first one is a comparison of JUMPING JACK, which you would know as LEGGIT! - along with many of its reincarnations. The second one is URIDIUM, again with many of its reincarnations. Both entries are rather heavy to read, so if you're interested in reading, a good amount of coffee should prepare you for it. :mr.green:

Time to spam this thread again, it seems. Although the Atari-related entries come less often now than previously, they still do appear every now and then, and today's entry is certainly Atari-related. ELIMINATOR began its life on the Atari ST, quite possibly as Ammotrack, as has been mentioned here, so it shouldn't come much of a surprise that you've got a winner here.

The other Atari-related entries since my previous update here are:

THE LAST V8

and RENEGADE

Time to spam here again, in case someone's reading. Here are the two latest, rather heavily Atari-related entries on the blog...

ENDURO RACER
http://frgcb.blogspot.fi/2016/04/enduro ... -1986.html

ELIMINATOR
http://frgcb.blogspot.fi/2016/03/elimin ... -1988.html

And I also had to write another UPDATES entry (featuring some Atari stuff) to bring some things more up to date, as well as give myself a reminder on what to fix when I have some proper time later on...

Oh my, look how the time goes by. Since my previous update here, there have been several Atari-related entries posted on the blog, so it's about time to bring things up to date here.

First off, today's entry is probably the most important Atari-related article since Eliminator, since it was made by Atari Games for the arcades.
APB - http://frgcb.blogspot.fi/2016/05/apb-at ... -1987.html

Second, the previous entry was an unofficial sequel of one of the most well-known co-operative arcade shooters of all time, this time made straight for home computers.
SWIV - http://frgcb.blogspot.fi/2016/05/swiv-storm-1991.html

Third, although the original game was left unfinished for the ST, at least it came out splendidly enough as a Remix version...
THE LAST NINJA - http://frgcb.blogspot.fi/2016/04/the-la ... -1987.html

Finally, some 8-bit Atari games were included for the TENTH part of the Unique Games series. So, all of that combined should give you plenty to read through. Have fun! 8)

In case you haven't noticed, the blog has come back from its summer holiday. Sorry for the lack of updates here, but I haven't really been able to focus on the blog as previously, so you haven't missed much. Here's the first, long overdue update for you guys, including just the entries with any Atari-related material.

First off, after APB, I made a rather troublesome comparison of another driving game of a very different caliber:
TEST DRIVE - http://frgcb.blogspot.fi/2016/06/test-d ... -1987.html

Then, before the summer break, I made another traditional two-parter of yet another Epyx sports game:
SUMMER GAMES II, PART 1 - http://frgcb.blogspot.fi/2016/06/summer ... art-1.html
and PART 2 - http://frgcb.blogspot.fi/2016/06/summer ... art-2.html

The first sort of newer game comparison for this year was about one of the oldest possible games that could be called "new", a puzzle game from Cosine called
REAXION - http://frgcb.blogspot.fi/2016/09/ngotm- ... -1994.html

Finally, today's entry is the first of many bigger game comparisons I'm planning on doing this year, and has two Ataris featured:
GHOSTBUSTERS - http://frgcb.blogspot.fi/2016/10/ghostb ... -1984.html

As I've become busier with real life and work stuff, I fear I don't have nearly as much time to put into writing the blog as I've had until this past June. However, I'll try to focus on getting some bigger comparisons and more requests done while I still have the energy. Anyway, happy reading! 8)

Holy crap, seems like there's very little action here on this forum, which is a pity, since the main site is awesome. Well, just in case someone pops in within the next month or so, here's a long overdue update to this thread, seeing as there have been quite a few Atari-related entries since October. By Jove, it's been 5 months since the last update... oh well.

The first Atari-related game comparison since Ghostbusters was one of many gamers' all-time favourite point'n'click adventures,
MANIAC MANSION - http://frgcb.blogspot.fi/2016/11/maniac ... -1987.html

December was dedicated to Finnish games, so instead of a traditional Epyx sports game, I chose to do a comparison of Jukka Tapanimäki's strange shooter-puzzler,
NETHERWORLD - http://frgcb.blogspot.fi/2016/12/nether ... -1988.html

Next Atari-related articles were written in February, one of them being an 8-bit Atari original for a change:
GARFIELD: BIG, FAT, HAIRY DEAL - http://frgcb.blogspot.fi/2017/02/garfie ... -1987.html
and DRELBS - http://frgcb.blogspot.fi/2017/02/drelbs ... -1983.html

This month, I've been focusing on Sega's arcade games, and the first two out of three have had their share of Atari conversions.
UP 'N DOWN - http://frgcb.blogspot.fi/2017/03/upn-do ... -1983.html
CONGO BONGO - http://frgcb.blogspot.fi/2017/03/congo- ... -1983.html

That's it for now, hope at least some of those will either give you some new information, or perhaps even make you feel better for whatever reason. Why not grab a cuppa and dive into all that unnecessarily wholesome and amount-wise great bunch of text.
