Re: Unusual Id Name
I thought it would be that, or from the old comic "Warlord".Gruber wrote:Could'nt think of one so used Gruber. a name from that great game COMPUTER AMBUSH.

The character in the "Warlord" comic was a WW2 era German spy, but it was set in the present (well, the 1970s, but that was the present!). In fact, the whole comic encouraged a generation of children to be suspicious of anything to do with Germany. It's quite scary to think of nowadays, but I read a lot of that kind of stuff as a kid.Andre wrote:You encounter the name Gruber very often as last name here in Germany..
I'm still struggling to get Omnitrend's Universe to work in Atari800Win PLus 4.0. Has anyone succeeded in getting this to run?
I've tried versions 1.1, 1.2, and 1.3 of Universe. I can get the two disk drive versions to work as far as creating a player disk and fitting out my ship. But everytime I try to use the sublight drive to move to a lower orbit the game locks up.
I'm fortunate to have saved my original copy of the game and manual. I've followed the procedure for changing orbit exactly as described in the manual but the game freezes while waiting for the orbital radius to be input. At that point there is no response to any keyboard input.
What am I missing? Is there some special setting to the emulator software?
Please help.

This is a bit late now, but I've been working on a FAQ for this game which I will shortly be submitting, somewhere. I figured out most of the problems, though I would REALLY love to get a hold of the v1.3 disk images -- they still seem to be very hard to get a hold of.
However, in answer to the last poster's issue, the trick is to turn SIO Patch off -- Universe doesn't handle that well. Instead, use F7 (speed up the emulation altogether) in short bursts to get past long disk reads.

Hi Ed,
Yes. Turning off the SIO patch seemed to work for me. See my reply on the other Universe thread:
