But it isn't Ultima 1 - it's "Ultima - Escape from Mt Drash".

It is insane though!

The box picture is the same, I think. I guess it shows what Sierra thought of the game, that they just recycled the box art from an existing game for it.

Stupid question: Ultima Escape from Mt. Drash and Ultima 1 is not the same?

Nope, they're not the same at all. Mt. Drash is spin-off by Sierra, trying to cash in on the Ultima hype.. They used the same art for the cover, but that's about the only thing that's similar to the Ultima games. It's a very crude maze-type monster-bashing game. Quite cool for a Vic, but nothing spectacular by any means.

The reason for the price is that until last year, more or less, it was considered a myth. It was only ever advertised in a small ad in Compute way back when, and most collectors thought it was a vapourware thingie. The first boxed copy on eBay fetched $3655, last year.. Since they started to appear, prices are decreasing of course.. I think there is now account for 7 boxed copies, with about the same amount of loose tapes, or tape + loading sheet.

It must be the Ultima name that's responsible for the price. RPG/adventure collectors always seem to drive prices up, but there are other games that are as rare.
