Infocom 4-in-1 sampler

Post by Andre » Sat Sep 18, 2004 9:05 am

Hi,

was this sampler released with box and manual(s) or was it just the disk?

Thanks for your help,

André

I've seen two Infocom 4-in-1 samplers.

Both were packaged on a piece of card with a plastic blister glued on top. IIRC part of the card was a voucher that could be redeemed against the purchase of an Infocom product.

That's the one I have.

One had playable demos of Zork I, Planetfall, and Infidel with a preview of The Witness; the other one (I think) had extracts from Zork I, Wishbringer, Trinity and Leather Goddesses of Phobos.

You certainly don't see them very often.

Did the second one make it to the Atari? Trinity was never released on the A8.

Actually, I think you're right. The one I saw was probably an Apple II release.

Which sampler had the little mini adventure where you had to capture a butterfly?

Could it be the Catch-a-Butterfly disk tutorial? I don't think that one's available on the Atari.

Are you sure?

I think that it's on the first 4-in-1 (1984), with Zork I, Planetfall and Infidel, along with some text from Witness.

The second ('87) sampler was the one with Trinity (and I'm pretty sure it wasn't available for A8 now).

Should be just before you begin playing the Zork I sampler then.

Currently someone is auctioning a 4-in-1 sampler disk and the auction's description says:

"Contains playable demos of Zork I, Infidel, and Planetfall. And a non-playable transcript from The Witness. Also includes the introductory "Catch a Butterfly" I-F tutorial by Marc Blank."
