Cygnus X1
Hello Gang,
Does anybody know if Cygnus X1 has ever been released by Atari UK (Atari Frog told me it started as an Anco title) or is it a proto / beta ?
In case it's been released, would someone have access to the packaging ?
It's far from being a good game (way too frustrating and difficult - even Buck Rogers -six years earlier- did a much better job) but the background is quite nice (probably done at the time with Technicolour Dreams from Red Rat).
Later... AB.

still on the disk image
John,
It's still there if you check the disk image with Hex Edit (or a text editor).
Also, the disk version that I got in the mid-nineties didn't have any "cracked by" message.
Hope this helps.

How strange! The version I had had 'CRACKED BY JOE A. OF LPS' if I remember correctly! I imagine the (now) blank line had some sort of copyright message originally. Also, the disk version that I got in the mid-nineties didn't have any "cracked by" message.
Tis no wonder hackers would stick (albeit, very basic) checks at the start of the code to see if anyone had removed or changed their 'label'!

Hi Andy,
It's probably pretty rare but was definitely released. Several reliable dealer listings mention the game.

I reviewed Cygnus XI in New Atari User, issue 40. It was a cassette version from Atari Corp. I mentioned in the review that it was originally developed by Anco. I'm pretty sure it was supplied with all the packaging etc.,otherwise I wouldn't have known what the background story was to write about. But unfortunately I no longer have it!

Hi Paul,
Nice to have you here.
I think I located someone with a copy of the game, I'll ask him if he can scan the packaging.

Re: Cygnus Xi
I sold my orig. tape version to death trap..., you'd be better of playing Buck Rogers by SEGA (much better game, or the same game type)
