Yoomp! Problems

Can't wait to play this highly tauted game. I load it, and I get cool music with a black screen. I download a different version from another site and the same thing happens.
I've hit every button. What am I doing wrong?

Are you in PAL mode and did you switch off BASIC?

I don't know what PAL is and how to turn it off and yes, I did hold option down when loading PCMirror which usually works.

PAL - "Phase Alternating Line" - the TV system used in the UK and most of Europe.
An emulator can be switched between PAL and NTSC (the TV system of North America) - it's not so simple with a real machine.
(NTSC stands for "National Television Standards Council")
