Re: Cart dumps

IMO the dumps' sizes should reflect sizes of original ROM chips. If a chip has the data written twice, then the dumps should reflect that. But if a chip is really 4K/12K in size, the dumps should also have that size. Then the emulators should be modified to support the new "cartridge mappings". Thi...

Re: How to make VAPI dumps?

I have original working media for a few titles that aren't listed in the VAPI/ATX list. How do I go about making dumps of these? I have a few Happy 810 drives, which in most cases are capable of making working copies of these games. So I assume these would be good enough to dump an ATX. Any pointer...

Good point! I'll try to bug Chuck Benton again and e-mail Pete Rittwage at the C64PP site as well. Again, I'd try to contact Ken Williams. Those people sometimes never reply, but sometimes they do. I understand he is retired, and if he setup his own web site, he might have some nostalgic attitude. ...

Jorge, you need to be more precise... Is the version you have copy-protected? Did you check the directory? What does the Apple label look like? This is extremely important. Could you compare the disk you have and the cracked file? It is "semi-protected". The protection is present on-disk, but it se...

I will say this: seeing "Atari version by Chuck Benton" on the box certainly implies that Sierra was either publishing or intending to publish that version. It is definitely possible that they intended to publish it, but they didn't. Or that they pusblished it only on tape (but Frog claims this is ...

Jorge, you have a disk dump as well, don't you? If the game was found on the back of an Apple disk, I'm positive that disk is a demo/review/prototype and not a published release. - not everything is advertized, particularly for the Atari and certainly not for an old product. It is possible, but it ...

I still have my doubts it was actually released. Rob, could you ask Mr. Benton if he knows for sure if his Atari version was actually published and sold ? It is possible that he made the version, Sierra bought it, but it never actually sold (may be they never actually published that version). The di...

Re: Spy vs Spy 3 - cassette converting questions...

I was trying to convert "Spy vs Spy 3" tape to cas format, but here I have some questions... 2) the game doesn't load with fastsio on in Atariwin 4.0 :-( BUT it loads when fastSIO is de-activated ! Well, it takes some time but it's working ! Is this a "problem" of AtariWin or won't "Spy vs Spy 3" l...

True, but he will still miss all the software library specific for the 1450XLD. :)

It is not very rare, but it is not common either. Atari allowed free distribution (at least I think so), and it is not copy protected. But it wasn't included with the computer or the disk drive. So most users at the time had a "legal" non-original copy. This probably explains why it is not as common...

Yes, there is a PAL register in CTIA/GTIA. But this tells you if the computer is NTSC or PAL, it doesn't tell anything about the cartridge currently inserted.

Yes, by Royal Software.

IIRC it needed translator, so it should be rather old. This might be one of the possible reasons for the rarity. Most older utilities are pretty rare.

Utilities

Some utilities, even rather popular ones seem to be true rarities.

Anybody has or ever seen an original of Disk Keeper?

I remember it was a software I really loved and used it a lot in the old days.

The statement from that seller is accurate but misleading. It is true that cartridges are NOT marked for a specific region or TV norm, as do happens in other platforms. This doesn't mean that the software will behave exactly the same on PAL and NTSC. As deathtrappomegranate explained, on most cases ...

Manuals are separate, one for each game. Single disk, one game per side.
